The Department of Energy’s Consolidated Incinerator facility was developed to comply with the SRS’s clean-up program. Bell was selected based on its past experience in nuclear waste and power generation performance and active NQA-1 quality program.
The project involved concrete foundations, structural steel, mechanical piping, equipment erection, and electrical and instrumentation installation all meeting strict comprehensive safety and quality requirements. The main process building incorporates the material and handling receipt area, a rotary kiln, and ash system, along with an off-gas system and controls. Conveyor, scrubber and flue gas systems are all interconnected by process piping systems with a PC-based distributed control system to integrate operations of all equipment.
