NIH Building 33 is a 10-story containment research facility that includes BSL-2 and BSL-3 bio-medical research labs, a vivarium containing a BSL-2 and enhanced BSL-3 facilities, and adaptable space for use as insectary, office, conference facility and public space. The facility is occupied by the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and provides a focus for in-depth research and rapid response programs dealing with agents of new emerging and re-emerging disease and for the study of agents that may be used as weapons of bioterrorism.
This project included the installation of all mechanical piping, sheet metal and plumbing systems. Bell performed all coordination for this project with the use of 3D modeling, as a predecessor to BIM, to ensure all aspects of the project were successfully managed.
