Bell was responsible for civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation construction elements all according to comprehensive safety and NQA-1 quality requirements.
This project included massive concrete shield wall enclosures with stainless steel liners, heavy equipment erection and placement, specialized welding systems, extensive tankage, vessels, piping systems, electrical and instrumentation and control systems used to support the transformation of high-level liquid nuclear waste into a stable glass (vitrified) form.
In addition to construction, Bell personnel participated in the startup and commissioning of this unique facility, including interfacing with the Owner’s Engineer to establish system turn over packages, installation verification, performance of pre-functional tests, flushes, high voltage testing and I&C loop verification, developing and performing component and system level tests, developing modification and equipment turn-back documentation, documenting and turning over of test data.
Bell personnel were involved from site development through start-up and operations.
