The Advanced Technology Research Facility (ATRF) is located in Frederick, MD. This project for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) was for the interior fit out and base building upgrades to four buildings including two BSL-3 containment labs for work with hazardous toxins. This was a complex project combining many different laboratory systems within a very aggressive construction schedule.
The 243,000 square foot facility is based on a specific design criterion that allows for the development of biomedical advanced technologies and translation of research discoveries to clinical settings. This includes special construction associated with an environment specifically designed for cGMP manufacturing, laboratory, research, development, and testing associated with cancer research and production of drugs, vaccines, and other biopharmaceutical products.
Bell was responsible for the mechanical and plumbing installation. In total, Bell installed 92,000 linear feet of heating piping, 69,500 linear feet of plumbing piping and 76,300 linear feet of lab gas piping.
