Joint Base Andrews was created when Andrews Air Force Based merged with Naval Air Facility Washington. Bell performed the general construction of a Hydrant Refueling System on Andrews Air Field, which is the airfield portion and under the jurisdiction fo the United States Air Force.
The primary project elements consisted of a pumphouse, two 10,000 BBL fuel tanks and a multiple bay truck loading station. Site utilities included the installation of more than 23,000 linear feet of 12-inch diameter stainless steel JP-8 jet fuel piping requiring 100% x-ray inspection.
Additionally, the project called for demolition and placement of 3,500 cubic yards of concrete and over 70,000 cubic yards of earthwork. installed process piping and control valves. The work included ¼-inch to 4-inch stainless steel piping and tubing, welding control program, 4,000 orbital automatic welds chemical flush and clean process, and a quality control program.
