Naval Air Station Patuxent River is home to Headquarters, Naval Air Systems Command, the US Naval Test Pilot School and serves as a center for test and evaluation and systems acuqisition relating to naval aviation.
Bell was responsible for the field erection of two 900,000-gallon above-ground JP-5 fuel storage tanks; the installation of an equipment pad consisting of fuel transfer pumps, filter-separators, associated piping and electrical switchgear; as well as the construction of two complex truck loading/off-loading stations.
Additionally, Bell installed one mile of eight-inch underground fuel pipe along an active taxiway to connect the new fuel farm to the existing base fueling system.
After the new facilities were commissioned and placed into service. The demolition phase commenced, which included the removal of three 600,000-gallon underground fuel tanks, fuel pumps and associated equipment.
