Bell recently won the contract to perform the Mechanical and Plumbing Scopes of Work for the expansion of Sentara Healthcare’s Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. Due to the constrained footprint on this densely populated campus, the design for the expansion had to be vertical rather than horizontal. The solution? Six new floors on top of two existing wings, accomplished using a million-pound construction crane that is 200 feet tall and has a 300-foot boom. The project, which consists of approximately 180,000 SF of new construction, including a three-floor addition (two patient floors and one mechanical floor) on top of the Kaufman Pavilion and the addition of three patient floors with an expanded mechanical penthouse on top of the River Pavilion. The project also includes 188,000 SF of renovation in the existing hospital consisting of expanding and modernizing the 18 OR suites and the 54-bed ICU.
Roanoke, VA The crane will support upcoming construction activities taking place over the next 24 months, as the onsite, joint venture construction team of Birmingham, Alabama-based Robins & Morton and Virginia-based Branch Builds begins structural work on Carilion’s new Crystal Spring Tower. Bell BCI Company, LLC is the mechanical contractor on this Design-Assist project. Bell's team in Roanoke is led by Phil Hull, Sr. Project Manager and Brad Kirkey, Assistant Project Manager.
