Bell recently won the contract to perform the Mechanical and Plumbing Scopes of Work for the expansion of Sentara Healthcare’s Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. Due to the constrained footprint on this densely populated campus, the design for the expansion had to be vertical rather than horizontal. The solution? Six new floors on top of two existing wings, accomplished using a million-pound construction crane that is 200 feet tall and has a 300-foot boom. The project, which consists of approximately 180,000 SF of new construction, including a three-floor addition (two patient floors and one mechanical floor) on top of the Kaufman Pavilion and the addition of three patient floors with an expanded mechanical penthouse on top of the River Pavilion. The project also includes 188,000 SF of renovation in the existing hospital consisting of expanding and modernizing the 18 OR suites and the 54-bed ICU.

On May 21, employees from Bell’s Rochester Office participated in the annual JP Morgan Chase Corporate 5K Run Challenge.
Bell was the mechanical and plumbing design-assist subcontractor on the University of Virginia - University Hospital Expansion (UVA-UHE) project in Charlottesville, VA. Bell's team at UVA-UHE was led by Senior Project Manager, Phil Hull. This project is featured in the linked article.
